We are a small, friendly team hoping to attract new players
to increase the squad size. Many of our players only started
last season.
The team has been quite successful over the past two seasons,
reaching four rugby festival finals. In 2005-2006 as U10’s
the team won the Ilkeston Rugby Festival Plate, and were runners
up in the NLD final. The following season 2006-2007 saw the
team win the Doncaster Rugby Festival Plate and finish up runners
up in the Ilkeston Rugby Vase final. Our Coaching and Management
Team are;
Coach/Manager – Andy Picking
Andy began as a parent helper; becoming manager of the team
at U10’s and is currently working towards his Level
1 coaching qualification.
He played rugby at school and socially whilst at college.
A keen rugby and football fan, Andy has also played local
league football.
Coach/Manager – Phil Dyson
Phil has been a level one coach since 2002/2003 season. He
played rugby 7’s in the forces, but also represented
the Combined British Forces at Judo. Phil over the past 3
years has been totally seduced by the egg, and main ambition
is to tour Argentina.
Coach – Ken Roberts
Ken has played Rugby all of his life and had schoolboy trials
for Wales. He has played in every position from scrum half
to prop for many teams including Newport and the Metropolitan
Police, for whom he played both divisional and area Rugby.
Ken holds the level 1 coaching certificate and has been coaching
with this squad since the under 9’s age group. Ken is
also a level 1 qualified Shotokan Karate coach.
